EuSEM 2016 - 10th European Congress on Emergency Medicine

EuSEM's hosts in Vienna are the emergency medicine societies of three nations: Germany, Austria and Switzerland. These three nations share a single goal of introducing the emergency medicine specialty in their countries. I expect our congress will provide specialty knowledge and training which will generate a step forward in this goal.

EuSEM's scientific congress committee and congress organisers have created an impressive programme covering a range of key medical, organisational and management themes in emergency medicine. Simon Carley
Clinical Decision Making in the Resus Room

In this talk we will explore the unique challenges of decision making in the 'information light, time critical' situations faced by all in Emergency Care. How can we train and develop our decision making skills for our sickest patients.
Simon Carley is Professor of Emergency Medicine in Manchester, England. He is a founder of the St.Emlyn’s virtual hospital, blog and podcast. He has interests in evidence based medicine, resuscitation, major incident planning and in developing innovative methods of medical education.

Head of the Paris SAMU, professor of surgical anesthesia-resuscitation. He runs the anesthesia-resuscitation department of the Necker hospital. He’s also Président of the Medical consultative Committee, the scientif committee of the Foundation of the future, the French council of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CFRC) and National council of the hospital emergency.

Ian Stiell
Creating evidence to improve safety and effectiveness of ED patient care

Dr. Ian Stiell is a Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine, University of Ottawa; Distinguished Professor and University Health Research Chair, University of Ottawa; Senior Scientist, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute; and Emergency Physician, The Ottawa Hospital. He is internationally recognized for his research in emergency medicine with a focus on the development of clinical decision rules and the conduct of clinical trials involving acutely ill and injured patients treated by prehospital services and in emergency departments. He is best known for the development of the Ottawa Ankle Rules and Canadian C-Spine Rule, and as the Principal Investigator for the landmark OPALS Studies for prehospital care. Dr Stiell is the Principal Investigator for 1 of 3 Canadian sites in the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (ROC) which is funded by CIHR, NIH, HSFC, AHA, and National Defence Canada. Dr. Stiell is a Member of the Institute of Medicine of the U.S. National Academies of Science.
